Artisan Profile:  June Barber

June Barber was already a dynamic world traveler before joining Textures in 1986.  The Wadena, Saskatchewan farm girl’s nursing career took her to Saskatoon, then London, England where she and her high school sweetheart, Doug, pursued post-graduate educations, before settling in Dundas and raising four children.

While practicing nursing, nurturing her young family, and assisting her husband as he co-founded Gennum Corporation, June’s desire for learning and self improvement led her to take up ceramics and become a potter.  Her simple style and perfect technique evokes Japanese elegance, and has brought her renown.  Through this passion, June came to Textures.

As one of three volunteer “Core Members” who oversee the operations of Textures Craftworks, June holds the essential position of Shop Manager and shows a personal commitment to quality in all aspects of the business.  Dedicated to the success of Textures, June consistently shows a positive customer focus and natural leadership.

June’s professionalism shows through her active listening, effective and appropriate communications, and good role modeling for other members. A valuable resource to our customers, June shares her vast knowledge of creative materials and processes to help them make the best purchase decisions based on their requirements.

June’s extensive travels gave her an appreciation of the graciousness and politeness found in typical Japanese and British shops as she searched for authentic local arts and crafts, and she brings these qualities home to Hamilton, where she welcomes the world to Textures!

Textures Artisan Profile:  Patti Fortune

My paintings are a celebration of life … of dreams and imagination … and the beauty that surrounds us.
I enjoy the creative time I spend in my studio where I am able to reflect upon life, create new ideas and ultimately share my enthusiasm and inspiration with others.

Being creative and caring for the people that I love and admire, is for me the greatest expression of all that I am passionate about … truly embracing me in happiness.
It is my desire to create and celebrate the success of what we do in our lives and to be an inspiration to be the best we can be.

For me my art is the positive energy of life every day and a reminder to enjoy the moment.
I am currently expanding my work to include words to wear … jewellery that is inspired by the words in my paintings.

Have a wonderful day,
Patti
